Vina Cobos

“I know of no other place on earth with a more ideal combination of attributes for Malbec” Paul Hobbs

The wines of Viña Cobos are the result of a shared vision inspired by the passion of American winemaker Paul Hobbs and Argentine winemaking partners Andrea Marchiori and Luis Barraud to produce expressive, world-class wines with a true sense of place.historia sml

From the very beginning they challenged themselves to produce wines that express the true identity of each variety and its terroir. In doing so, they strived to obtain intense and balanced wines resulting from a careful vineyard management with great respect for the terroir.

The balance in the vines allows the winemaking team to concentrate the best characteristics of aroma, structure and composition of each grape variety. The winemaking philosophy is to produce wines with natural practices and assuring that in each step the vines and wines are treated with utmost care. They encourage and pursue fermentation with indigenous yeast and prefer to bottle the wines unfiltered and unfined in order to retain their full body and persistent finish.

The range includes the Felino Malbec, Felino Cabernet Sauvignon, Bramare Malbec & Cobos Malbec

The Felino wines exhibit a great balance of pure, concentrated fruit, lively acidity and smooth tannins. They are all vibrant, mouth-filling wines that pair exceptionally well with food.

Felino Malbec “this powerful, firmly structured malbec is black/fuchsia in colour and perfumed with wild raspberry and bittersweet cocoa. The palate unfolds in velvety layers of plum, currant and anise whilst notes of white pepper and minerals accompany fine-grained tannins on a long, memorable finish.”

Felino Cabernet Sauvignondense garnet colour accompanies an earthy nose, rich with aromas of cassis, mocha and lavender. The palate is bold and complex, weaving black currant and boysenberry with granite and sweet tobacco. Ripe tannins and subtle minerality find perfect balance over a lengthy finish.”

Bramare Malbec

Bramare is the Italian word meaning to yearn for and this truly embodies the desire to produce stunning wines whilst paying heritage to the Italian roots of the Marchiori family.

Bramare Malbec “this wine exhibits a deep, dark violet hue. The nose is layered with aromas of blonde tobacco, ripe raspberries, cocoa powder and vanilla bean. An expansive, deeply structured palate reveals undertones of graphite, espresso and violets. Firm tannins are balanced with acidity, creating a mouth filling malbec of great finesse, that leaves a lasting impression.

Cobos Malbec

Cobos Malbec is only produced in the exceptional vintages, from the oldest vines (60-80 years) in the Marchiori Vineyard. It exhibits levels of concentration and power rarely achieved in Argentina, or in other top winegrowing regions of the world, for that matter. The inaugural 1999 vintage received the highest score to date for an Argentine wine upon its release in 2002.

“Cobos was conceived as the ultimate, unbridled expression of pure malbec character and Mendoza terroir. A brooding, saturated shade of violet, the 2006 flaunts enticing aromas of currant, black walnut and freshly baked bread. On the palate, intense focused flavours of black raspberry, anise and dark chocolate coat the mouth whilst notes of pencil lead and spice add complexity. Formidable structure and firm, chewy tannins frame this densely textured portrait of old vine malbec from Marchiori Vineyard.”
